Sports and Fitness Clubs for Children

Why not join a sports or fitness club? The easiest way to keep fit and stay healthy is to get involved with a sport that has lots of aerobic exercise.

If you get involved in a club, with permission from your carers, you are far less to be overweight or obese. Your confidence levels are likely to sky-rocket and you'll have an improved self esteem.

Meeting a new circle of friends is another obvious advantage and you will also probably do better at school too.

Try and pick a sport that you think you may be good at if you practiced lots and one that has a club nearby and is open and accessible at the times you are free.

Some sports & activities you could get involved with (there are lots more) :

  • Ball sports (e.g. Volleyball, Soccer/Football, American Football, Handball, Basketball
  • Cycling
  • Rowing
  • Skating, Rollerblading, Skiing, Snowboarding
  • Racquet sports e.g. Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash, Badminton
  • Running / Orienteering / Walking
  • Dancing
  • Swimming
  • Martial Arts / Boxing

Encourage your parents to come and watch if you think they will be supportive! Go with a friend if you think that will help - but if your friend gives up at some stage make sure you are made of sterner stuff.

Finally, initially don't expect to get amazing at a sport. Just enjoy it and you'll get better and better the more you play and practice
