# Multiplication and Division for Kids

Multiplication and Division are extremely important basic operations to understand in mathematics. A good understanding of these is really important not just in math but also in virtually every job to some degree and also in everyday life. A good knowledge of math is required in many highly responsible jobs such as engineering and science vocations plus all aspects of finance and management.

Indeed, muddling through life without a reasonable knowledge of multiplication and division wouldn't make sense. Everyday occurrences like shopping, banking and cooking would be extremely difficult not knowing these simple facts.

After you have a good understanding of multiplication and division, you should be able to:

- Know and memorize the basic Multiplication (times) tables
- Understand that multiplication is like repeat addition
- Recognise odd and even numbers
- Understand the inverse relationship of multiplication and division
- Know that two numbers can be multiplied together in any order
- Recognise that numbers in division are not interchangeable
- Multiply and divide numbers in written form
- Multiply and divide some larger numbers mentally
- Use commutativity in mental multiplication calculations
- Recognise prime numbers up to 100
- Use and understand the distributive law and the associative law
- Understand and identify factors
- Know common square numbers
- Understand the correct order of operations
