# Data for Kids

*(scroll this section to read all)*

Knowing how to use and interpret data is an absolute necessity in everyday life. All manner of items in many walks of life are represented in different manners (e.g. bus and train timetables, average weather temperatures to help choose a holiday destination, health data such as BMI bar charts etc.).

Using charts in a spreadsheet and manipulating data is common in many job situations and in some technical vocations such as teaching, engineering, science or finance then it is absolutely essential.

Also see our articles here on 'PROBABILITY' and 'STATISTICS'.

After you have a good understanding of Data you should be able to:

- make and interpret certain simple diagrams, graphs and charts showing data (such as line graphs, tables, tally charts, bar charts, pictograms etc.)
- work with discrete data and continuous data
- understand data related to time and interpret timetables
- do comparisons and solve problems on data presented in a host of formats
- work out means and averages and when it is appropriate to use them

In the links below there are many fun, high quality activities, games and learning videos. These will teach you everything you need to know about data representations in various formats. Why shouldn't you have fun and learn at the same time?
