It goes without saying that telling the time and being able to calculate forwards and backwards is an absolute necessity in daily life. Learning this is a critical learning requirement for all children and adults alike. All jobs no matter what their position will require a thorough understanding of time.

All jobs require a good understanding of time and this section will help you get there.

After you have a good understanding of time, you should be able to:

  • Use time terminology such as later, earlier etc.
  • Draw hands on a clock face
  • Tell the time for whole numbers of hours e.g. one o'clock, two o'clock etc. and be able to draw this on an analogue clock
  • Tell the time for half hours e.g. half past three, half past four and be able to draw this on an analogue clock
  • Compare two times
  • Put times or timed events in order (sequencing)
  • Tell the time for quarter hours e.g. quarter past five, quarter to six and be able to draw this on an analogue clock
  • Tell the time to five minutes e.g. five past seven, five to eight and be able to draw this on an analogue clock
  • Use 24 hour notation and understand a.m. and p.m.
  • Estimate times to the nearest minute
  • Convert between analogue and digital time values
  • Convert fluently between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years
  • Use and plot time based graphs

In the resource section below you will find lots of high quality links to exciting games, activities and useful revision notes making your quest to learn all about time as fun as it can be. Who says you can't have fun and learn at the same time?
