Healthy Recipes for Kids Overview

Healthy Recipes for Kids Overview

Making sure your child has a Healthy Diet will maximise mental and physical development. See our article here on 'HEALTHY NUTRITION'. If you need some inspiration for Healthy Recipes for Kids, we're here to help.

The first thing to understand is that children do not need to have Healthy Meals every single time, just most of the time. The occasional treat is absolutely fine and normal and should be encouraged. However, treats should not be a daily occurrence and the vast majority of a child's nutrition should be 'healthy'.

Of course, healthy food takes a little bit more time to think about but it needn't necessarily take any longer to cook. And if you have tried and tested recipes to follow then that is a real time saver too. Once you get into a new shopping routine then it is no more difficult than any other food scenario. Typically healthy foods are slightly more expensive but if you have to stick to a budget there is still plenty of healthy food you can eat too. See our article here on 'HEALTHY NUTRITION ON A BUDGET'.

Healthy Ingredients for Recipes

Healthy Recipes will have a varied and healthy balance of the following foods which should supply your child with all their necessary fiber, vitamins and minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fats and water intakes :

  • Protein e.g. lean meats, fish or lentils
  • Grains e.g. whole-wheat rice
  • Dairy e.g. milk or yoghurt
  • Fruit and Vegetables e.g. apples, melon, carrots and peas
  • Healthy Fats e.g. mono-unsaturated fats
  • Good Hydration e.g. water or milk

Make sure your child avoids the following foods most of the time : refined sugars, fast fried foods, fatty meats, heavily processed foods, too much saturated fats etc.

Conclusion

A healthy diet for kids is essential for both their physical and mental wellbeing. Having access to a set of tried and trusted healthy recipes is a big help to achieve this because it takes a lot of the thinking out of the equation, which parents and guardians often struggle for time with. Not all dishes will go down well, some may get thrown away. But you MUST risk this and think of the long term goal. Some dishes will be big winners on the other hand. Once you have enough dishes that are both healthy and appetising to your children, healthy food will become part of your children's lives.
